Mapithel Dam is Maphou Dam’

IMPHAL, Nov 15: Kuki Inpi Thoubal area stated in a statement that it is totally against the naming of Maphou Dam as Mapithel Dam.
It siad it was unfortunate that the name Maphou Dam was objected to in a rally at Ukhrul on May 19, 2008 organised by Naga People Movements for Human Rights (NPMHR), Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Mayar Long (TML), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), which was attended by Director, New Delhi based inter cultural research Smitu Kothari.
The rally organized by Mapithel Dam affected villagers for economic package, for all affected both upstream and downstream villages in the Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Maphou Dam area, on Nov 3, 2008 was a communal rally and was sectarian in natures the statement charged.
It charged that this was a one tribe theory on this issue and warned that other tribes who are supporting this movement in the past and present will be punished/fined in customary law after a detail judgement by the elder.
It said Mapithel village is away from Thoubal Multi-purpose site Maphou by 20 to 30 kms.
It said it has no objection to anything but will not stand mute spectator to changing the name of Thoubal Multi-purpose project Maphou Dam or if it is politicalised.
As recognized by the Union and State Govt and private agency Thoubal Multi-purpose project, the site should be called Maphou Dam. Mapithel Dam is unknown to the people and has unseen agenda of vested interestit charged.

4.The Community is Recorded as Milhem tribe in all records , but after long period of research they have accepted to be called as Hangmi after their Progenator.
